Cramp Champ: A Traditional Herbal Formula for Cycle Comfort

Menstrual cramping is one of the most normalized symptoms in medicine. Women are told it's simply part of having a cycle, handed an ibuprofen recommendation, and sent on their way.

Chinese medicine looks at cramping differently. In this system, monthly discomfort is a signal about how blood and fluids are moving — and formulas for it have been refined over a very long time. Cramp Champ is a modern tincture built in that tradition, and it's one we keep on the shelf.

What it is

Cramp Champ is a liquid herbal tincture from Lhasa, made with a blend of botanicals traditionally used to support menstrual comfort and healthy circulation. It's part of the Peekay's line of concentrated herbal formulas we carry.

Tinctures have a practical advantage over capsules: they're absorbed quickly, they're easy to dose flexibly, and you can take them without water. For something you may want to use at a specific point in your cycle, that flexibility matters.

The traditional thinking behind it

In Chinese medicine, the classical explanation for cycle pain is stagnation — blood and fluid that aren't moving as freely as they should through the pelvis. The traditional response is not to numb the sensation but to support circulation and warmth in that region, and to do it in the days leading up to and during the period rather than only once pain arrives.

That's a genuinely different mental model than "take a painkiller when it hurts," and it's why we often suggest thinking about timing rather than just dosing.

How it fits into our approach

We want to be clear about where a bottle sits in the order of operations.

Cycle pain is information. Significant, worsening, or newly severe menstrual pain deserves an actual evaluation — it can be associated with conditions that need proper diagnosis, and no herbal product substitutes for that. Our women's hormone health guide walks through what a real cycle workup looks like, including why we ask menstruating patients to schedule labs on day 19–21 of a 28-day cycle.

For patients we're already working with, herbal support tends to sit alongside acupuncture, structural care of the low back and pelvis, and whatever the labs told us. It's a tool inside a plan, which is how we treat everything here.

Who tends to reach for it

Patients who want a traditional option to have on hand, who prefer something they can take proactively across a few days rather than reactively, and who are already working on the bigger picture with us.

If you're managing a diagnosed reproductive condition, taking any medication, pregnant, or trying to conceive, talk to us — or your prescribing provider — before adding an herbal formula. This is not a category where "it's natural" means "it's fine with everything."

Where to get it

Cramp Champ is $40 in our online shop. If you'd prefer a topical option instead of, or alongside, an internal formula, we also carry The Formula For Cramps.

Practitioner-only products we use in clinic are available through our Fullscript dispensary.
